About Us

Armelle & BrigitteThe original plan was to buy a house in St Tropez, but our parents thought both they and their two girls, would have less of the temptations of modern 1960s culture by purchasing this blissful house in the remote, beautiful and unspoilt medieval village of Laroque. Nestled in the St Alberes mountains, deep in the French Pyrenees, the town is yet a stone’s throw away from the sea.

Our Mum and Dad, Jacqueline & Gerald

Our Mum and Dad, Jacqueline & Gerald

At the time the village was inhabited by wonderfully fierce Catalan, the women dressed in black with fiery eyes who generally shunned outsiders.

Jacqueline

But our mother’s elegance and sheer Frenchness coupled to the sight of her 6 foot 6 inch handsome English husband bringing her tea on a tray through the village to the hairdressers charmed them into adopting them into their community.

Jacqueline & Gerald

Today, my parents would be thought of as eccentric, but the villagers took them into their hearts.

Over the years we came to adore the simplicity of life here, the heat, the coolness of the long walks in the woods and the natural rock pools where we would swim in the crystal clear waters. The ever-present symphony of the Cicadas, and the distinct sound of the bells of the village church ringing out twice on the hour which could be heard from whichever walk you might be on. Nothing much has changed today except the sympathetic restoration of the old houses and the addition of several cafes and bistros in the village.

The sights, smells and colours impregnate themselves into your soul. We both took these attractions to build careers in interior design using many of the colours and characters that they were exposed to in this part of the world. Now they design and hand make a range of interior decors that range from soaps to place mats via tables, trays, lamps and anything that can be transformed into something beautiful and stylish by their creative minds!

Based in Mayfield with an outlet in the fashionable Golborne Road off Portobello Road, their thriving business continues to be influenced by their time spent in heavenly Laroque.
